Diagnosis and treatment
What is myopia and can its progression be stopped?
Updated:
The main things in brief
- Myopia (short-sightedness) - objects in the distance look blurred, close up everything is sharp
- It often progresses at school age and with long hours in front of a screen
- It is corrected with glasses or contact lenses; I do not perform laser vision correction surgery myself
- I provide consultation, diagnosis and the selection of correction; if needed, before and after laser vision correction
Myopia
How to recognise myopia
- A blurred image of objects at a distance
- Squinting in order to make out distant objects better
- Tired eyes and headache after long periods of looking into the distance
- In children - moving closer to the screen or the book while reading
Why it develops
The most common cause is elongation of the eyeball, so that the image is focused in front of the retina instead of on it. The tendency is often inherited, and the progression is driven by long hours of close work and little time spent outdoors, especially in school-age children.
When it is worth coming in
If distance vision has become worse, if glasses or lenses no longer give a sharp picture, or if a child has started squinting and moving closer to the screen. Regular check-ups matter even without complaints: in children and teenagers myopia can progress unnoticed.
How I can help
I examine and diagnose refractive errors, select vision correction - glasses or contact lenses - and give consultations before and after laser vision correction if a patient is considering it. I do not perform the laser correction surgery itself.
What this page does not cover
This page is not about laser vision correction surgery - I do not carry out the procedure itself, I manage the patient before and after it. If it is the surgery you are interested in, I will explain at the consultation how the whole path is arranged.

Can myopia be cured without surgery?
Myopia cannot be removed completely without surgical or laser treatment, but vision can be corrected and the progression can be kept under control. No, I do not perform the laser correction surgery itself. I give the consultation before the procedure and the follow-up after it. To book a consultation, call +38 (066) 916-57-23; appointments are held in Lviv, 7 Zaliznychna Street, Visium Clinic.
