Why it develops
With age the lens of the eye gradually loses its elasticity and changes shape less easily in order to focus on near objects. This is a natural age-related process that affects everyone after the age of forty, even those who used to have perfect vision.

If after the age of forty reading up close has started to require more light and more distance, or if your usual distance glasses have suddenly stopped working for reading.
